SHE IS AI Launches Uganda Board of Directors to Lead Ethical, Community-Led AI Education

Kampala, Uganda, 7 January 2026

SHE IS AI, a global initiative championing ethical, human-centered artificial intelligence, proudly announces the formation of its SHE IS AI Uganda Board of Directors, a world-class governance body guiding AI education, innovation, and community impact across Uganda.

Established as a fully registered Ugandan charity, the SHE IS AI Initiative Uganda is now governed by a select group of nine distinguished leaders across education, technology, gender equality, policy, governance, health, and youth development. Their collective expertise ensures that AI literacy, digital skills, and workforce development reach communities equitably, ethically, and sustainably.

Meet the Board

• Judy Kamanyi – Chairperson
Senior specialist in governance, gender equality, and human development. Alumna of Makerere University, LSE, and the University of San Diego. Chairperson, Promoters Council of TPO Uganda. Trustee, Nnabagereka Development Foundation..

• Dr. Nici Sweaney – Secretary
International expert in ethical AI and governance, Founder and CEO of AI Her Way, and Senior Fellow at the AI for Developing Countries Forum. Dr. Sweaney has shaped national Responsible AI guidelines, delivered 100+ global keynotes including at TEDx and the United Nations, and supported over 65 organisations across technology, education, and sustainability.

• Francis Ssekitto – Treasurer
Educationist, researcher, and digital innovation strategist with expertise in records management, information governance, and ethical AI adoption. He provides governance leadership in education and champions inclusive digital literacy and women’s leadership in technology across Uganda.

• Mo Hafez – Director
Technologist, ethicist, and executive advisor specialising in AI strategy, ethical innovation, and workforce transformation. He is the Founder and CEO of ByteWise LLC and an Adjunct Lecturer at Johns Hopkins University, bringing a global perspective on responsible AI and digital transformation.

• Bridget Teddy Opany – Director
Human Resources and training specialist with extensive experience strengthening organisational systems, talent development, and compliance frameworks. Her work focuses on people-centred leadership, capacity-building, and behavioural change across health and community development initiatives.

• Katy Keene – Director
Certified Canva Enterprise Trainer and Certified Canva Agency Partner specialising in scalable, AI-powered marketing workflows and creative systems. With a background in marketing operations and systems strategy, she supports organisations to improve collaboration, brand consistency, and productivity through accessible, people-first design technology.

• Dr. Faith Mbabazi Musinguzi – Director
Educationist and counselling psychologist specialising in educational leadership, mental health, and capacity development. She serves as Head of Postgraduate Studies in Education at Uganda Christian University, advancing learner-centred and wellbeing-informed education systems.

• Isaac Lukenge – Director
Health statistician specialising in monitoring and evaluation, health data systems, and programme effectiveness. His work supports evidence-based decision-making, women’s health outcomes, and data-driven community empowerment initiatives.

• Elizabeth Lule – Director
International development and global health leader with extensive senior leadership experience at the World Bank, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, USAID, and Save the Children. She brings deep expertise in global partnerships, policy, and systems-level impact.

A Landmark Moment for Ethical AI in Africa
