What is it?
The SHE IS AI Initiative Uganda operates as a fully registered legal community-based organisation, governed by a strong, independent Board of Directors.
Our Board provides strategic leadership, ethical oversight, financial governance, and community alignment to ensure that every program we deliver creates real, measurable impact across Uganda.
This Board is made up of 9 respected leaders across education, technology, policy, community development, governance, and youth empowerment.
Together, they guide the vision, protect the mission, and uphold the values of SHE IS AI as we expand AI education, digital access, and workforce development across the region.

Meet the Members

Judy Kamanyi - Chairperson
A social human development, governance and gender equality specialist, with four decades of work experience in the public, private and not-for-profit sectors. An alumna of Makerere University Uganda, the London School of Economics and Political Science UK, and the Joan B. Kroc School of Peace Studies, University of San Diego USA, and a Fulbright Fellow 2002.
Supported mainstreaming gender in Uganda’s Education Policy for a Government White Paper, with support from Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), and evaluated the promotion of science, technology; engineering and mathematics (STEM) in some girls’ only secondary schools in Uganda, with support from Dubai Cares.
Served on different civil society governance boards and currently serving as a Trustee of the Nnabagereka Development Foundation, Chairperson of the Promoters Council of Transcultural Psychosocial Organization (TPO) Uganda, and a member of the board of AfriChild, a regional child-focused research institution.

Nici Sweaney - Secretary
Dr Nici Sweaney is an internationally recognised leader in ethical AI, equity, and governance. With 20 years of experience across science, education, and strategy, she is the founder and CEO of AI Her Way, a consultancy equipping organisations to adopt AI responsibly and sustainably.
A Senior Fellow at the AI for Developing Countries Forum, Dr Sweaney contributes to global conversations on inclusive innovation and data ethics. Her work has shaped Australia’s Responsible AI Use Guidelines and generative AI strategies in education. She has delivered over 100 keynotes and training sessions - including TEDx and the United Nations - and supported 65+ organisations such as Paramount+, WWF, Canon, the ARIAs, Melbourne Cricket Ground, and the Australian Retirement Trust.
Her insights have been featured in Forbes Women’s Issue 2025, the Australian Financial Review, and across major media outlets including ABC, Mamamia, and HerCanberra. She has been nominated for the Australian AI Awards - Leader of the Year, the Women Changing the World Awards, and The Times 100 Most Influential Companies 2026.
Named one of Microsoft News’ Top 10 Trailblazing Entrepreneurs in AI, Dr Sweaney’s work is grounded in a clear belief: when governed ethically, AI becomes a tool for empowerment - not exclusion.

Francis Ssekitto - Treasurer
Francis Ssekitto is an educationist, researcher, and innovation strategist whose work spans records management, library and information science, artificial intelligence, and organisational wellness. He serves as Chairperson of the Board of Governors at St. Andrews Kaggwa Gombe High School, where he provides transformative leadership focused on governance, accountability, and digital innovation in low-resource learning environments. As an academic and mentor, he supervises students in Records Management and LIS, championing ethical, relevant, and technology-driven research. His community work centres on AI adoption, digital inclusion, and local empowerment, notably through the She is AI Initiative Uganda and as Co-founder of Ugandan Women in AI, where he advocates for women’s leadership in the AI ecosystem. His research explores digital evidence, legal admissibility, and information governance in Uganda, contributing to regional and global conversations on Ethical AI, AI for research in resource-limited settings, and digital evidence management. Across these roles, Francis advances a human-centred, inclusive, and ethical approach to technology, education, and institutional development.

Elizabeth Lule
Elizabeth is a widely recognized expert on international development and global health issues and has devoted her career to strengthening global commitments and programs addressing the needs of women, adolescents, children, and infants. Before joining ECDAN, she served in senior leadership, management, and technical positions at the World Bank for 17 years. She also worked at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation as Director, at Pathfinder International as their Africa Regional Vice President, and as Technical Advisor with USAID in Nigeria. She started her career in academia and served as an adjunct professor at Georgetown University in Global Health.
Elizabeth is very passionate about addressing social inequalities and has been instrumental in establishing and supporting global partnerships, networks, and coalitions to break down silos and improve the wellbeing of women and children and other development issues. She serves on several Boards of Directors, including Save the Children International, the Africa Institute for Development Policy, and Concept Foundation. She has also served as a member of several global think tanks, including several UN Inter-Agency Task Teams. Her work is published in peer-reviewed journals, and she has received several service awards. She has a joint advanced degree in Medical Demography from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and the London School of Economics and Political Science.

Mo Hafez - Director
Mo Hafez is an American-Egyptian technologist, ethicist, and executive advisor specializing in AI strategy, ethical innovation, and national-scale workforce transformation.
With more than 17 years of experience across digital transformation, cybersecurity, cloud modernization, and enterprise leadership, he works at the intersection of technology, culture, and human development.
Hafez is the Founder and CEO of ByteWise LLC, a learning and innovation company focused on future skills development, AI literacy, and ethical technology adoption.
He also serves as an Adjunct Professor at Johns Hopkins University, where he teaches emerging technologies, AI literacy and ethics, bridging complex technical subjects with accessible, values-driven instruction.
A respected public speaker, futurist, and cross-cultural communicator, Mo is known for uniting Western technological expertise with Middle Eastern philosophical and ethical foundations, making him a sought-after voice on the future of AI, digital responsibility, and regional innovation.
His diverse background combines engineering, business leadership, ethics, and global strategy.

Dr. Faith Mbabazi Musinguzi
Dr. Faith Mbabazi Musinguzi is an accomplished Educationist and Counselling Psychologist whose leadership and scholarship span education administration, mental health, and capacity development. She holds a PhD in Education Administration and Management, a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology, and a Bachelor of Education, grounding her work in both academic rigor and practical insight.
Currently serving as Head of the Education Postgraduate Studies Department at Uganda Christian University, Dr. Musinguzi provides strategic direction in preparing future education leaders. Her work emphasises innovative, learner-centred approaches and the integration of psychosocial support into leadership training.
Her research focuses on mental health and well-being among learners, teachers, and administrators, with particular attention to stress, burnout, and presenteeism—issues that deeply affect performance, retention, and institutional culture. She is a strong advocate for creating supportive, inclusive, and resilient learning environments.Dr. Musinguzi brings to She Is AI a thoughtful, evidence-based perspective on educational leadership, gender inclusion, and wellness. Her commitment to empowering educators and learners aligns strongly with the organisation’s mission to elevate women and girls through digital literacy, AI fluency, and equitable access to knowledge-driven opportunities.

Katy Keene - Director

Bridget Teddy Opany
Bridget Teddy Opany is a Ugandan Human Resources specialist.
Bridget has previously worked with the Public Procurement and Disposal Authority (PPDA) in Uganda, where she developed their HR Manual.
She currently serves with Uganda Health Marketing Group, a National NGO dealing with social behavioural change communication, as the head of HR.
She also works as a training specialist with Emergency ONG, an Italian NGO with their Ugandan Office.

Isaac Lukenge
Isaac Lukenge is a health statistician and passionate advocate for women’s empowerment and health promotion. He holds a Master’s degree in Statistics and currently serves with the California Department of Public Health, USA. Previously, he worked with the Uganda Bureau of Statistics, bringing extensive experience in health data analysis and programme evaluation.
Isaac is particularly skilled in designing and implementing monitoring and evaluation frameworks, leveraging smart tools to enhance programme effectiveness. Based in the USA, he frequently travels to Uganda to support initiatives that advance women’s health and empowerment. His combined expertise in health statistics, programme evaluation, and technology-driven monitoring makes him a valuable contributor to SHE IS AI’s mission.
